Topic of interest: 'Infrared thermography: challenges and new frontiers'

2024-02-19

The Thematic Issue aims to provide an overview of the most recent challenges and the new frontiers that research and industry fields are facing and achieving by means of InfraRed Thermography (IRT).

IRT is a non-contact, optical and non-destructive technique based on the detection of infrared radiation from an object to indirectly measure its surface temperature. Nowadays, IRT is applied in several fields, thanks to its many advantages, with different purposes and excellent results. For example, it is used to map the surface thermal distribution in order to identify material defects, to assess the structural stress behaviour, to monitor biological parameters and to estimate and investigate potential diseases.

It is a branch of research of great interest and rapidly growing thanks also to the multiple continuously expanding application fields.
